over 38 years ago, kitty alcott and jenny arimond, opened the doors to sojourner shelter in hopkins, mn to provide safety and refuge for victims of domestic violence. soon after opening its shelter, in 1982 sojourner expanded and began to offer non-residential, community based support services. these services included intervention advocates in criminal court and legal advocates in family and civil court to help with protection orders and custody issues. shortly thereafter, sojourner’s community outreach program was established to raise community awareness and garner community support. since it began, sojourner advocates have helped thousands of survivors reclaim their safety and their lives. our philosophy is rooted in the belief that all people have the right to live safely in their homes free from violence, threats of violence, or other forms of harassment and abuse. our commitment to that end has not wavered, and this is evidenced in our agency mission and goals our mission is to: a
