Solano County Archives
the solano county archives--an all volunteer-run facility--holds the historical government records of solano county dating back to the the county's inception in 1850. for over 2 decades dedicated citizens have 1) saved many elements of the collection from destruction, 2) worked to organize and preserve the collection, 3) created finding aids, and 4) provided public access to the collection. the collection is currently managed by a professional archivist working pro-bono. the collection does not yet have official archival status, nor is the archives on the county organizational chart. however, in july 2008, the county moved the historical records collection out of a surplus warehouse into a leased temperature-controlled space. currently the county provides nominal financial suppport for supplies and operations costs, resulting in an increased dependance on donations to sustain preservation efforts and research services.
