the solar fuels institute (sofi) is a global research consortium of universities, government labs, and industry leaders united around the goal of developing and commercializing a liquid solar fuel. sofi aims to sustainably fuel the planet using the ultimate energy source: the sun. by mimicking one of nature's most fundamental processes in photosynthesis, sofi scientists and engineers work to convert the sun's energy into clean fuels. using tools such as social network analysis, bibliometrics, telepresence and project management, sofi will foster a collaborative pursuit of our collective goals, reaching beyond the capacity of any individual research laboratory or institution. sofi will use disruptive digital platforms that enhance knowledge sharing at unprecedented levels to rescue successes from failures on the lab bench. central to the sofi approach will be the creation and upkeep of a knowledge map, a clear graphical living framework for exploring and communicating vision and plannin
