solas 3d is a student project run by a team of 6 students of eth zürich based in the student project house on the hönggerberg campus. our goal at solas 3d is to utilize a parabolic mirror to focus direct solar irradiation into a tight spot and then transport this concentrated energy to an arbitrary location by means of fibre optic cable bundles. having this capability at hand allows us to improve the energetic efficiency and thus leads to a significant reduction in carbon emissions of various commercial processes such as waste incineration, metallurgic processes like smelting and casting and large-scale additive manufacturing of metals and ceramics.
