solaware is a social enterprise operating on a not-for-profit basis formed. we offer a portable source of safe, healthy and affordable light powered by sustainable solar energy to empower all people across the world. the team was originally formed from members of the cambridge centre for gallium nitride, which was one of the first research groups in the world to develop high efficiency white leds. our initial prototype was part funded by an award from the cambridge university venture for change award. we have since gone on to win the cambridge university entrepreneurs social enterprise 1k and 5k awards. in 2007, we joined cambridge social venture which aims to bring impacts to the society and environment by providing business advices for start-ups. we are continuing to refine the product and extend our range of contacts in the developing world. we aim to be in the future a self-sustaining business with a global social impact.
