Solflo

solflo is a social enterprise coming out of stanford’s design school through the course design for extreme affordability (extreme.stanford.edu). the company designs, sources, and manufactures solar powered irrigation pumps for small plot farmers in myanmar. solflo’s product facilitates the sourcing of groundwater for irrigation during the dry agricultural season in myanmar. the product uses off-the-shelf solar panels to power a proprietary, submersible irrigation pump which is tailored to the specific needs of myanmar’s irrigation infrastructure – namely, it fits inside of a 2” diameter pvc pipe tube well and is able to pump water 10 meters at a flow rate of at least 25 liters per minute (11,000 liters per seven hour day). solflo is designed to help its customers address the critical farming challenge during the dry season which is watering their crops without incurring burdensome ongoing operating costs for hired labor or diesel fuel. it provides a simplistic and affordable means for
