sapa was launched by a parent who experienced, first hand, the fundamental need for enhanced communication between the somali refugee community and the mainstream school system. in the past five years, sapa has grown from a one-man organization into a multi-cultural, multi-generational non-profit, working with a wide variety of partners throughout the twin cities area and beyond. our mission: sapa assists somali families in minnesota in building and strengthening their capacity to fully navigate and participate in american school systems, to be knowledgeable about educational opportunities, and to be supportive of their children’s academic progress. what do we do? *out of school time programming *culturally responsive one on one tutoring *connecting families to resources *school and staff training *parent engagement and empowerment *community advocacy and support
