the sonoma fencing academy was founded in 1997 by maestro michael pacheco to provide a full time fencing academy to the residents of the north bay area. it was the first school of its kind in this region. the main focus of the fencing academy is to provide fencing instruction and bouting opportunities for fencers of all skill levels and ages. the club offers foil fencing instruction to youth fencers and saber and foil instruction to adult fencers. in 2012, the sonoma fencing academy was incorporated. eric bermender became the new president and took over the business aspects of the club to allow maestro pecheco, and the rest of the coaching staff, to focus on fencing instruction.
