the sons of thunder is a dramatic tv series based on a true story set in the dual worlds of gospel music and rock and roll in the 1970s. the story follows the son of a strict, white pentecostal preacher, who grew up playing keyboards in tent revivals, and jumps at the chance to tour with the rolling stones and stevie wonder, along with his brothers, the sons of thunder. it explores the conflict he faces between his church roots and the hedonism of the rock world as he crosses paths with many of the major artists and cultural icons of the music world. the series captures the extraordinary talent that came out of the gospel world and burst onto the r&b, rock and roll scene. their father demands they leave the tour, and proceeds to disband the sons of thunder, sparking off a firestorm, and forcing the boys onto very different paths. in 1972 dorothy norwood of atlanta, ga. was asked by mick jagger of the rolling stones to be the opening act for the stones 1972 stp tour through the us. d
