the company became (pty) ltd in 1988. it’s original function was the manufacture and repair of electronic equipment for the mining industry (eg. manufacturing anti-collision units for haul trucks and repairing ge control cards for haul trucks, drills, shovels and draglines). over the next few years, the main function of the company moved from maintenance to designing and manufacturing. our first dc dc converters were designed for eskom and subsequent contracts for the supply of such items have extended to the present day. (approx. 25 years). transtel was the second major user of our dc dc converters. the first units adopted by the sa railways were better than those they had used before but there was still room for improvement, as the environment at the time was hostile to electronic products. a very robust unit was developed that withstood these conditions and this has become standard on all locomotives in sub-saharan africa to this day. sos also developed power supplies for line-side
