the south central ambulance service nhs foundation trust (scas) is an innovative, healthcare organisation providing traditional ambulance services as well as clinical assessment, signposting, transport, logistics and training services to a population of around 4 million people who live and work in an area the size of cyprus. scas covers the counties of berkshire, buckinghamshire, hampshire and oxfordshire and became an nhs foundation trust on 1 march 2012. despite a number of densely populated urban cities such as southampton, portsmouth, reading, oxford and milton keynes within our patch, our operational area is classified as predominantly rural.
