sfpa began in 1979 as a way to provide a local forum for ideas relating to the paralegal profession. in 1993 sfpa became an affiliate of the national association of legal assistants (nala) and continues to work diligently to enhance the competence and effective use of professional paralegals through education, active participation in the legal community and forming alliances with local and state bar associations. to enhance our participation in the paralegal regulation issues affecting paralegals, sfpa became an affiliate of the national federation of paralegal associations (nfpa) in july 2008. members of sfpa volunteer to serve on the board of directors.
