Southern Great Lakes Symphony

the southern great lakes symphony the orchestra was known as the allen park symphony until 1995, when it changed its name to reflect the fact that it has expanded its horizons. its members come from all over downriver, as well as from the entire detroit metropolitan area, and the quality of its performances rival those of the best regional orchestras around the country. the southern great lakes symphony orchestra is a professional group, and is constantly improving its repertoire and reputation. the orchestra is conducted by musical director charles greenwell, an excellent conductor and skilled orchestral programmer. in addition to his conducting prowess, greenwell uses the sonorous voice that he possesses from his days at radio station wqrs to explain the nature and history of each piece that the orchestra is about to perform. this makes the programs much more meaningful to audience members, who are able to better appreciate the music. the orchestra plays all types of classical music,
