southern metal industries (smi) was founded in the early 1950’s by w. garnett smith. william g. (bill) smith, jr., son of the founder, is the current president of smi. two of his sons are now active in the business. smi has manufactured shelf filing, library shelving, and systems furniture for over forty years. in addition, our current product line includes a wide range of tables, training tables, chairs, storage cabinets, filing cabinets, freestanding desks, hutches, and other furniture for the office, education, and the medical field. we manufacture nearly all of our products at our 142,000 square foot factory in ringgold, georgia. we utilize modern, state of the art machinery and equipment to punch, laser cut, bend, weld, and powder coat all of or steel components. most other items used in our products are supplied from domestic sources. our products are built using our own proprietary designs. they are not clones or a knock off of another manufacturer. we pride ourselves in the qua
