Southern Sierra Council, Boy Scouts of America

the southern sierra council provides scouting resources to over 3,300 youth in kern, inyo and mono counties. services provided by the council directly benefit local cub scout packs, boy scout troops, varsity teams, venture crews and explorer posts. the council is governed by a 25 member board of directors that guides and empowers other volunteers to take action to achieve the goals and mission of the boy scouts of america. this group is led by a council president, council commissioner and the scout executive. a full-time staff of career professionals work with community organizations and volunteer leaders to organize and deliver quality scouting programs. a support staff maintains membership, advancement and financial records, prepares mailings, manages a scout shop, and provides customer support to the over 1,800 volunteers and thousands of families each year. the council maintains a service center in bakersfield and operates a seasonal camp property; camp kern, located at huntington
