governmental institution based in brussels, that defends the interests of spain to the european union, and manages and coordinates the fullfilment of tasks during the spanish presidency of the european union. the primary task of the representation is to participate in meetings with colleagues from other eu member countries to negotiate the various european proposals. the most important work includes preparation of, participation in and reporting to the spanish government on meetings of the working groups of the council, coreper i and coreper ii. this is where the spanish interests are defended and spain tries to influence the development of the european union.
