the foundation is a successor to the popular bulgarian civil initiatives spasi metroto and spasi sofia. and while the former initiative managed to convince the local institutions to drop the idea of a light rail for the third metro line in sofia so that it can be built as a classical subway, spasi sofia became one of the most powerful ngos in bulgarian's capital, impacting on the daily agenda of the mayor and bringing up important issues in the city. spasi bulgaria manages several projects all based on the idea of improving the urban environment, prioritizing the public transport, stop the never ending infrastructure failures of sofia municipality and help preserving and socializing the cultural heritage in bulgaria. the foundation's main goal is to make bulgarian cities attractive, modern, sustainable and friendly.
