it was 1947, and america was settling into a post war economy. gasoline was 15 cents a gallon, a loaf of bread was 13 cents, and the tool & die industry in dayton, ohio was thriving. to help meet the rapidly expanding needs of that fast growing industry, william hoyer purchased three used centerless grinding machines, and that acquisition spawned specialty machines inc. in 1953 william's son, william c. hoyer, joined specialty. seven years later, he bought the company, thereby starting the second generation of family ownership. in 2006 his youngest daughter, donna, purchased majority ownership in the company, and still actively adheres to her father's operating standards. from our inception, specialty machines, inc. set out to provide low and medium volume centerless grinding services with, in william c. hoyer's own words: "fair prices, good integrity, and good quality… the bond that builds good relationships with customers." that philosophy has served us well, to where today our cu
