in 1935 our founder paul sperry - an avid sailor, inventor, and explorer with a passion for discovery - set out to design the world's first non-slip sailing shoe, inspired by his best friend: his dog prince. the invention was a simple one, born of necessity and inspired by short moment. on an icy, cold day, paul and his dog were out for a walk in connecticut when he noticed that his dog didn’t slip on ice. when he returned home, we turned prince’s paw over to find hundreds of small cracks and lines going in all directions in a herringbone-like pattern. the dog's paw print became the inspiration behind paul sperry's innovative non-slip sole, and later served as the invention that the sperry top-sider brand was founded upon. like many of us today, paul was faced with a real-life problem that stood in the way of his passion. and he set out to solve the problem. if you're a problem solver and have a passion for the sea and exploration, come join our team. to learn more about our brand, vis
