Spicy Zine
spicy, created in august 2017, is an online zine and creative collective comprised of women of color and queer + trans people of color. our mission is to create a platform empowering women and queer + trans people of color to write, create, express, debate, learn, and ultimately decolonize the media - a space that doesn’t always include them. there is a lack of diversity not only within the media, but specifically in the newsrooms. narratives of those living within the nuanced and complicated duality of being an american while also clinging to the cultures of another heritage is an experience not captured in today’s media. spicy is a space for us, by us. in addition to our online publication, we are planning to produce podcasts as well as host fundraisers for local nonprofits, creative meet-ups for young poc professionals, as well as help curate pop-up galleries, shops, and shows.
