spilleater absorbents began in 2009 to develop commercial applications of the absorbent product developed by ted dickerson for the oil service industries. the original oil only formulation was expanded to all-purpose, bodily, and acid specific formulations. a year of testing was performed with the university of illinois to measure effectiveness as compared to competitive products, testing for epa landfill regulations, usda testing for biobased certifications, and research into spill kits and the ability to deliver all tools to a spill at one time. this resulted in two patents on spill kit design. other equipment manufacturers (oem) were partnered to perform initial market introductions and spilleater is developing its own distribution to selected markets utilizing sales representatives.
