Spotlight Michigan

spotlight michigan was born out of a research seminar run by michigan state university students and the michigan center for innovation & economic prosperity (mciep). the goal was to answer the question: how can we cultivate a society of entrepreneurship and innovation in michigan? our research suggests that the key source of future economic growth in our state is a diverse array of nimble entrepreneurial firms. the task of our organization is to help create a paradigm shift from economic development plans dependent upon single industries such as automotive manufacturing to a plan emphasizing small business start-ups and supporting them through their early-stage development. together with several non-web efforts to promote entrepreneurship, our site profiles noteworthy firms and students, lists resources for citizens interested in creating innovative start-ups, and advocates that policymakers place small business enterprise as the centerpiece of michigan economic strategy.
