sri lankan tamil community of indian origin-canada (sltcioc) is a non-profit organization registered in the province of ontario. it was established in 1993.the purpose is to connect sri lankan tamils of indian origin in canada and globally, to preserve and promote the heritage of our culture in canada by celebrating festivals like deepavali (“kurinji nite”), pongal, tamil new year and christmas. this will facilitate the people of sri lankan tamils of indian origin from different religion to feel canada as a home away from home. we, the sri lankan community of indian origin in canada also follow the same traditions, and festivities of south indian tamil ancestors. we are known as up-country tamils (malayaga thamilar) in sri lanka. we are descendants of workers sent in the 19 and 20th centuries, from south india to sri lanka (then ceylon) by the british rulers. our motive is to develop this tradition among the younger generation. sltcioc is the one and only largest sri lankan
