st bartholomew’s house inc (st bart’s) was established in 1963 and has its origins in the work and mission of the anglican church of perth. from inception, with a few mattresses on the floor of a church hall at east perth, st bart’s now goes beyond providing a roof, a bed and food. we provide stability, support, care and life changing opportunities for homeless men and women. in this way we build trust, resilience, confidence and self esteem to help them reconnect with the wider community. people become homeless for a variety of reasons. these might include a lack of affordable housing, family breakdown or neglect, domestic violence, sudden financial misfortune or some wrong decisions. some may have turned to substance abuse, suffered depression or have developed more serious mental health issues; others may have found rehabilitation difficult after a period of incarceration or lack of sustained support. more than a mere shelter, st bart’s is about the support and development of people
