in 1966 the newly established bokaro steel plant invited the xavier’s hazaribagh association to establish an english medium school to educate the children of its employees up to the higher secondary stage. st. xavier's school, bokaro steel city opened on 18 july 1966. st. xavier’s is a catholic-christian minority school established by the local unit of the society of jesus. it is a co-educational day school affiliated with the council for indian school certificate examinations, new delhi. the school is open to all, irrespective of caste, creed, economic status, or place of origin, who the school judges will share the values it stands for. ​ in 1996 the ownership and management of the school was transferred from the xavier's hazaribag association to the hazaribag jesuits education society (hjes), a society registered under the societies registration act 1886, reg. no. xxi-192 of 2005-2006 and a charitable trust registered under section 12a of the income tax act 1961, reg.
