we engage the next generation in the challenge of food justice by empowering students to grow healthy, chemical pesticide-free vegetables, utilizing state-of-the-art indoor vertical hydroponic technology. hydroponics saves land and water and its rapid growth cycles enable students to enjoy hands-on multi-disciplinary learning. our curricula includes science, nutrition, and entrepreneurship. to document their efforts and stimulate their creativity, startuproots also provides a photojournalism curriculum. our impact has been transformational. students come home with fresh produce their parents may not even be familiar with; they understand the importance of healthy pesticide-free vegetables and the dangers of highly processed foods, particularly those loaded with sugar; and they learn that they can be better consumers and ultimately make a change in the marketplace.
