start is non-profit organization running art workshops for orphans, refugee and special needs children across the middle east and india. start was founded in march 2007 by art dubai and the al madad foundation and is now an independent project. our start team goes into refugee camps, orphanages and special needs centres in jordan, lebanon, palestine, india, egypt, turkey and the uae and work with over 2,500 children every week. our mission is to heal and educate children who have suffered from war, pain and loss and who face mental and physical challenges on a daily basis. in our workshops, we provide the children with a safe environment, giving them the opportunity to express themselves, engage with other students and volunteers and develop a feeling of self-worth. we organize for international artists to teach and mentor the children in our workshops. we provide education through art, build self-confidence, assist in developing life skills and creativity in the children in a safe pla
