steel bones supports amputee families to live life to the full, overcoming the trauma of amputation. we are a proactive, supportive peer community. our community is rooted in the work we do at every level and steel bones evolves to their needs. steel bones has worked with hundreds of families across the uk through our peer support network run by amputee families. our peer support model and lived experience enables us to make a deep and lasting impact as our service users recognise that only other amputee families truly understand what the experience of amputation is like. steel bones was founded in 2015 by a family who were affected by amputation and reluctant to meet other families due to life being so hectic but also afraid to reach out for help as they wanted to exist in their own bubble, no one judged them in their own bubble, it was easier than to accept the crisis they were living within. they were too exhausted with everything going on to realise what support is out there.
