steer is a british educational technology company founded by dr simon and dr jo walker in 2010. steer has developed a pioneering whole-school approach, called as tracking, to screen, track and support whole school social-emotional development. the company undertook 6 years of research to develop the tool designed to provide early-warning and intervention for pupil social and mental health risks. as tracking is currently used to track and support nearly 20,000 pupils in the uk and international schools from the age of 8-18. as tracking measures a pupil’s ‘steering cognition’, a function of the mind that steer have described experimentally through their research. by measuring pupils’ steering cognition, as tracking is able to anticipate biases which increase the risk of a social-emotional crash earlier, and then signpost support and actions which the school can take. evidence shows that schools using as tracking are nearly twice as likely to improve the steering biases of pupils by using
