stent tek is a medical device company, spun out of imperial college in 2014, which is developing an electronic catheter guidance technology that enables completely new types of endovascular procedures to be performed. the initial application is a catheter system that provides a better way for patients to receive hemodialysis for kidney failure. these patients have a dialysis machine hooked up to a specific vein, known as the vascular access (va) site, to filter their blood. although there are several ways to create a va, less than 15% remain patent for the entire length of a patient’s hd treatment. in the us, the healthcare system spends $4.6 billion a year on the dialysis population to treat failed va sites. our novel catheter device percutaneously creates a reliable access site that is functionally similar to an autogenous arteriovenous fistula, the current gold standard procedure. it is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed outside of the operating room by surgeons or
