stewart & gibson ltd. is a family run department store based out of 25/27 main street, ballynahinch, county down. the business was established in 1919 by john mcfadden as an agricultural and hardware store. in 1976, tom and ida barr purchased the business and ran it with their sons colin and stephen, transforming it into a family run department store. since the passing of both parents colin and stephen have became the directors of the business. they have since expanded the business alongside their children and co-workers. the business has also diversified into other areas to meet demands of the new generations. this includes when they launched their e-commerce business in 2012 which has successfully grown. in 2019, the business celebrated a milestone. 100 years in business! which was celebrated with friends, family, co-workers, suppliers and surrounding businesses.
