repair cafés zijn gratis toegankelijke bijeenkomsten die draaien om (samen) repareren in je eigen buurt. er is gereedschap en materiaal aanwezig om alle mogelijke reparaties uit te voeren. op kleding, elektrische apparaten, fietsen, speelgoed etc. er zijn (vrijwillige) reparatiedeskundigen aanwezig, zoals elektriciëns, naaisters en timmerlieden. bezoekers nemen van thuis kapotte spullen mee. in het repair café gaan ze samen, onder het genot van een kopje koffie of thee, met de deskundigen aan de slag. inmiddels opereren in heel nederland zo’n 50 repair cafés zelfstandig onder de vlag van de stichting. het repair café is ontstaan vanuit het idee dat je niet altijd kapotte spullen hoeft weg te gooien. heel veel kan makkelijk gerepareerd worden. helaas zit repareren bij veel mensen niet meer in het systeem. reparatiekennis verdwijnt snel. de mensen die deze praktische kennis nog wél hebben, worden door de maatschappij niet altijd even hoog gewaardeerd. hun ervaring wordt niet of nauwelijk
