de stichting 'de vrienden van aalst' is een initiatief van een aantal inwoners van aalst die door middel van het organiseren van allerlei activiteiten aalst nog beter op de kaart te willen zetten. het eerste evenement was in december 2010, waar een heus glazen huis werd gebouwd om zo geld in te zamelen voor de gelijknamige actie van 3fm's serious request. vanwege het grote enthousiasme van zowel de vrienden als bewoners van aalst is besloten de stichting door te zetten en uit te breiden. inmiddels heeft de stichting haar evenementenpakket uitgebreid met onder andere het free dance event 'aalstrema', het oranje muziek spektakel en het vva 6 tegen 6 toernooi.
