Stop-Tb Forum

the stop-tb forum is a network of german ngos that work on tuberculosis (tb). we strive to bring the major german players together to raise awareness about tuberculosis as a global health threat, mobilize resources to treat and prevent the spread of tb, and advocate for the research and development of new tb medicines (diagnostics, drugs, biomarkers and vaccines). tuberculosis is not a disease of the past—it remains a global pandemic. 1.4 million people died from tb in 2010—3,800 deaths a day, or one death every 20 seconds. 8.8 million people fell ill with tuberculosis 2010. tb is the second leading cause of death from an infectious disease worldwide (after hiv, which caused an estimated 1.8 million deaths in 2008) and the third greatest cause of death for women between the ages of 15 and 44. in 2009, there were an estimated 9.7 million orphaned children worldwide whose parents died of tuberculosis.
