Story Tellers in Asbury Park

the story tellers program looks to develop literacy through the art of writing. using group exercises and one on one mentoring, we provide under-served teenagers and young adults the opportunity to write their own stories which can inspire them to discover the power of their own voice. our goal through this program is to develop literacy, self-expression, and self- esteem. the story telling takes on many forms – short stories, plays, poetry, and spoken verse – whatever style and form best suits each individual student writer’s abilities and style. the student writer is the author of every idea, plot, character, and word. by coaching, encouraging, mentoring, and providing positive reinforcement, we give the young writers the opportunity to fully explore and express their own individual creative voices. in this program, student writers are given guidance as they create, envision, and write – an integral part of the writing process involves reading, and each student writer is encouraged t
