Storytime Solidarity

run by a diverse team of volunteers from the northern and southern hemispheres, together in solidarity. storytime solidarity aims to support library and education workers in providing inclusive storytimes that welcome every child. inclusion in storytime is more complicated than many realize: often the books we read leave many families and children feeling unrepresented. worse still, many songs sung are problematic with roots in minstrelsy or are otherwise dehumanizing to the very little people we're supposed to be welcoming. it's too easy to fall into the trap of working with the books and songs we already know. it's all too easy to keep using dated books, problematic songs, and enforcing rules that don't work for every child. through inclusive picture book recommendations, an anti-racist song list, resources, allyship events, and regular blog posts the solidarity team is working to create a resource that makes providing inclusive storytime as easy as falling back on the same old
