open cooking fires kill more people than malaria and aids combined, each year. respiratory infections caused by indoor air pollution is the leading cause of death in children under age five. stoveteam international's mission is to replace these dangerous open fires with safe, fuel-efficient cookstoves. stoveteam assists local entrepreneurs in latin america to start factories using local labor and materials to produce the ecocina cookstove. our portable ecocina cookstove reduces firewood consumption by at least 50% and reduces particulate matter and carbon emissions by 70%. through this model we create jobs, reduce deforestation, and help families lead safer and healthier lives. since 2008 we have started seven stove factories in four countries in mexico and central america, and we are in the process of developing two more.
