living legend johnny stowmarries is a permanent-fixture artist from the pre-internet local music scene in brisbane, having formed dream-scene duo the goths in 1987. johnny's material draws from the literary canon and modern fictional forms, genre-busting and otherworldliness, to more conventional styles like nostalgia and escapism. he centres his works largely around personages from literature, what he describes as ‘subjective versions of literary figures' often drawn from a first-person perspective. certain works contain outré lyrical themes, oftentimes referencing folklore, mythology and legend. his sound is bass- and guitar-driven, featuring what he calls ‘cheap effects; as in sustain and delay’. stowmarries 'weather being' lp showcases ten tracks that run the gauntlet from classicism to grindhouse.
