the strata project is a network embracing art together with nature. the fundamental question concerning the relationship between man and nature is the basis for the efforts of the community. the latin name 'strata' stands for 'layers' and refers to the different types of sedimentary rock layers that are being exposed when excavating the ridge. the strata project has produced environmental artworks in the western lakeland region of finland. two of the largest artworks, the iconic tree mountain by agnes denes and massive up and under by nancy holt are located 20 kilometers from the city of tampere. the purest drinking water of central finland is located within the strata layers of earth under the village of pinsiö. future artistic productions will be announced in late 2013. www.strataproject.org
