Street of Dreams Musicians for Education

street of dreams is a college bridge program for kids who are wards of the court and in the juvenile justice system. it is student driven and provides them the capability to integrate back into society through their participation. operational since 1998, we have partnered with the san diego county office of education and san diego city college to serve the students of the juvenile court and community schools. located on the campus of san diego city college, street of dreams is a dual enrollment (high school and college) academic elective, for youth who have never had a college attendee in their family. the children we serve are critically at risk, with a growing population and an alarming number going to prison. through public performance the students are integrated with their greater community. using a simple method called "word art" we link poetry and spoken word to a group who has been without a voice. we have also created a product in order to help raise awareness and funds for str
