Stride Dundee

stride is a community initiative to promote active travel - walking and cycling - as well as the use of public transport and lift share, across dundee in east scotland. active travel benefits individuals through improved physical fitness and mental health; it reduces pollution and co2 emissions which contribute to global warming; and it contributes to community cohesion. people who walk and cycle see more of their surroundings and are more likely to use local facilities and meet their neighbours. reduced use of cars for shorter journeys helps to reduce congestion, improves traffic safety, and limits pressure for more car parking. employers find that staff who walk or cycle to work, or take an active break at lunchtime, are more alert, more satisfied with their work, and have lower levels of absenteeism. teachers find that pupils who come to school on foot or on bikes are livelier and fitter. medical practitioners find that patients who are more active present with fewer cases of obesit
