Student Governmental Affairs Program

the student governmental affairs program (sgap) was founded in 1995 by national write your congressman as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. sgap is an interactive teaching aid that goes beyond the textbook instruction of government, civic and social studies. the program involves students in the organization and practices of the federal government, informs them about current legislation, encourages discussion of these issues and motivates them to express their opinions to their elected officials in washington, dc. the result is a reduction of apathy among america’s students and the knowledge that responsible citizenship involves active participation. we believe the best way to ensure students will be politically active throughout their lives is to get them involved and to spark their interest now. sgap is currently used in public schools in all 50 states reaching out to more than 200,000 students annually (an estimated 3.1 million since inception). student voices for civic actio
