the studiestuen project began when, after a year of studying at sdu, seven students felt compelled to do something about the lack of cultural meeting places available to university students in odense. these seven students found the range of social and cultural events taking place in downtown odense to be frustratingly limited, and when they began to ask around among their friends and co-students, they soon realized they were not alone in their dissatisfaction, and the idea for a student-run academic bookshop and café in the heart of the city was born. the seven students imagined a café where serious studying could go hand in hand with social gatherings, and where students from all academic fields could meet informally. and for these seven enterprising students, words and deeds were not far apart… after paying for the refurbishment of nedergade 12 of out of their own pockets, the seven students decorated the place with donated furniture and studiestuen opened its doors on 1 september 2
