lynda billings phd mfa i have realized that the important thing that art brings to a person or society is a deeper look at the beauty as well as the problems of humanity. art allows us to ask critical questions about life and our ultimate role in situations that face us in the future, art does not solve problems but allows examination of complicated issues through lens of greater understanding toward resolution of our relationship with our planet. none of us will survive this world but i would like to think that the world will survive us. contemporary realism works better for me to address these universal themes. as more layers are applied to a piece it better reflects the complexity of our world and human nature. i try to offer subtle commentary through historical, political and nature references that might not be all that obvious.
