about studio maaike roozenburg after graduating from the gerrit rietveld academy in amsterdam in 2004 maaike roozenburg started her own studio. studio maaike roozenburg makes different kinds of products and projects, combining a historical fascination with everyday industrial shapes and materials. this can result in a collection of ceramics, but also in a design for a lamp or a work for the facade of a building. maaike roozenburg has a fascination for utensils. objects that function as tools for our daily life. a lot of our basic tools are not really changed; a jar, bowl, blanket or spoon are still as functional as 500 years back. they tell stories about their users; us, humans. about our rituals, needs and dreams. these archetypes are fascinating storytellers. these stories play an important role in the work of roozenburg. most of the time a new design starts with an analysis of the roots or origin of a certain utensil; it’s shape, material or technique that’s used to produce it. the
