studio pascal smelik, founded in 2009 in amsterdam, has his own collection of products, and also works on a freelance base. dutch designer pascal smelik (1983) was born in oegstgeest, the netherlands. after graduating high school in 2002 he began his studies at the haagse hogeschool in the hague: an industrial design study on a technical level. after the propeduese, he decided this was not his way of designing products, quit the course and went traveling. in 2005 he took an internship at a furniture designer. subsequently he decided to start a new study: the school of the arts in utrecht which was more focused on the esthetic point of design. in june 2009, pascal smelik graduated the school of the arts with two designs, comprised of a series of candlewax based products, popularly known as the 'kaarsrecht' series. his works were nominated for the 'piet bakker award' and the 'talent 2009 design awards'. this led to starting his own studio in november of 2009 in amsterdam.
