the legendary soviet sturmanskie brand was launched in moscow in 1949 when the first moscow watch factory began the watch production for soviet air force. those timepieces were made under a special order and were awarded to combat aviation pilots upon their graduation from a flight school. one of those graduates was yuri alekseyevich gagarin, the first man to fly into space. he was also wearing the sturmanskie watch on his wrist for that first space flight. that is how sturmanskie watch became the first watch in space. sturmanskie watches were not available to the public until 1984. when reformation also known as "perestroika" and the collapse of the ussr happened - a huge watch factory located in the heart of moscow, just 4 kilometers from the kremlin suddenly became useless. only in 2000s it was possible to restore and restart the sturmanskie watch production within a very limited manufacture area. there is a small watchmaking team which operates the production right now, and as
