in 1965, subway® was founded by 17 year-old high school graduate fred deluca, along with family friend dr. peter buck. the first store opened in bridgeport, connecticut, usa and was called pete’s super submarines. the first franchised subway® store opened in wallingford, connecticut, in 1974. the first subway® store in the uk opened in brighton in 1996. since then, subway®’s growth continues to increase throughout the uk and ireland, with more than 2,500 stores now open. subway® is keen to hear from hard-working, entrepreneurial individuals interested in a career as a subway® franchise owner. partnership opportunities are also available for corporate and independent businesses to open a store within existing locations. *subway® is the number one qsr brand by total store count (as at january 2019).
