Suit You Up

it started after my first salary of my first job. i was going to buy a suit. i had a lot of money to spend so i was confident in pursuing this suit hunt. however, after being persuaded to buy a €500,- suit, my football legs were too big, my (apparently) tiny arms too short and my muscled back too broad. of course, i found out that tailor costs were not included in the price when i came to pick up my suit a few weeks later. not a nice start of the relationship between me and the most exquisite two pieces of clothing in the world. and please, don’t even get me started on those expensive, always wrinkled, warm, cotton shirts i bought. “why are suits so expensive in the netherlands, but high quality fabric is not?”, my best friend since high school asked me. “if we find a cheap tailor, we could make a tailor made suit available for everyone.” luckily for us, he was familiar in the well-known ‘tailor district’ in shanghai, where he lives nearby. after some try-outs with ourselves and our
