summit for stem cell foundation is a volunteer, nonprofit organization working to raise awareness and fund an autologous cell therapy for parkinson’s disease. using induced pluripotent stem cell-derived dopamine-producing neurons, the researchers are developing a therapy that will alleviate the debilitating effects of the disease for 7-10 million patients worldwide. parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disease for which there is no cure. at the time the disease is generally diagnosed, approximately 60-80% of the dopamine (da) producing neurons have been destroyed. the research project's goal is to replace the lost dopamineurgic cells with brand new dopamine producing neurons derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (ipscs).
